At Innovate Rehab, our team of occupational therapists play a key role in identifying strategies that enable our clients to make environmental modifications to improve their independence, functional ability, and quality of life.
The prescription of appropriate equipment by an occupational therapist can be the difference between a person living in their home safely and independently, and a person no longer managing at home.
A comprehensive assessment from an occupational therapist will provide recommendations of equipment that can be prescribed to assist a person in daily tasks they may find challenging.
Equipment trials in stores or at home are often completed to ensure the recommended equipment is safe and suitable for a person, and most importantly, that the person is satisfied with the product. An occupational therapist often attends equipment trials to provide recommendations prior to purchase.
An occupational therapist will provide a person with training in using prescribed equipment to ensure they utilise the equipment as safely and effectively as possible.
Occupational therapists are able to prescribe and provide training with the following equipment:
• Mobility and transfer aids - wheelchairs, walkers, slide boards etc
• Bathroom aids - toilet and shower chairs, grab rails etc
• Bed transfer aids - monkey bars, electric beds, slide boards etc
• Seating aids - advice and recommendations for recliner chairs, pressure sore care etc
• Dressing, washing, and grooming aids - long handled equipment
• Feeding aids - modified cutlery and crockery
• Kitchen aids - tray mobiles, modified food preparation equipment etc
• Electric wheelchairs and scooters
• Vehicle modifications
• And more!
If you or someone you know would benefit from the prescription of equipment to assist in everyday life, feel free to contact our friendly team to arrange a comprehensive assessment from one of our experienced occupational therapists.
